Follow us on Facebook! This #GratiTuesday we highlight Quinter Community Development for bringing such an interesting piece of local history back to life. The Quinter Depot, located in Quinter, KS, was in need of a new roof, siding and paint, and windows. The entry ramps also needed updated to comply with ADA accessibility and fire safety standards. These updates were completed in phase one, and there will be two additional phases of upgrades to create a public space. Once the depot project is complete, Quinter Historical Society will provide tours of The Depot for the grade school students. This will give approximately 175 students the opportunity to learn about the history of Quinter and the Union Pacific Railroad. The Golden Prairie Extension District can host classes covering various topics such as horticulture, agriculture, natural resources, family or consumer resources, STEM, visual arts, and livestock. Completion of this project will also serve as a beautiful memorial to Amy Briggs, past chairman of the Quinter Historical Society, who originally had the dream of making these upgrades and moving the Quinter Depot back to Main Street. Thank you to the local businesses that were able to accommodate this project and the many volunteers who saw this first phase through. A special thank you to the Grow Gove County Fund and the Hansen Community Grant for Gove County, held with the Gove County Community Foundation, for making this upgrade possible.
