Discover Quinter

YOU WILL NEVER KNOW, UNTIL YOU GO!

Castle Rock - Badlands of Kansas

Castle Rock, also known as the Badlands of Kansas, is a chalk pinnacle rising from the prairie and located about 20 miles southeast of Quinter. Thousands of years ago, this area was covered by chalk ocean, which accounts for the chalk bluffs and beds. Much fossil work was done in this area by the Sternbergs. Their fossil finds are in museums

all over the world. The chalk buffs are still a fossil hunter's delight. To get to Castle Rock, drive 15 miles south of I-70 to sign (County Road K), then east 4 miles to sign (County Road 80), then north.
